Iran's process to enter WTO formally starts next month
• In the next general assembly meeting of the World Trade Organization on December 17, Iran’s workgroup will officially be admitted in the organization and the process for accession to WTO will formally start. Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported Director of Iran's plenipotentiary commercial representative office in the WTO, Esfandiar Omidbakhsh saying the office will hold the ninth specialized conference for the accession of Iran to the WTO. He added the Iranian foreign ministry must choose a director for the workgroup. Omidbakhsh predicted that the major negotiations for the accession of Iran to the WTO will start in 2010 adding that the process may take 10 years. The World Trade Organization is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified by their parliaments.
