A housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband at Pashchim Boria village in Rajapur upazila on Thursday.

Housewife killed in Jhalakati
Jhalakati, Aug 10 : Body of a housewife was recovered from her house at Talgasia village in Kathalia upazila Friday. The dead was identified as Anguri Begum, second wife of Shajahan Mollah. Police said Anguri was strangulated to death sometime on Wednesday night. She was living in the house alone as her husband was staying with his first wife and children in another place. On information, police recovered the body and Anguri's son Sumon Mollah filed a case against his father Shahjahan Mollah, step mother Sheuli and uncle Hakim Mollah. Police arrested Shahjahan and his cousin Hakim for in this connection, report UNB.
3 drug peddlers get one year jail in Jhalakati
A court here Monday sentenced three drug peddlers, in absentia, to one year simple imprisonment each on charges of selling ganja. The convicts are Sanjoy Mistri, 20, Kamruzzaman, 40, of Ishwarkati village in Nalchhity upazila and Jasimuddin Hawladar, 35, of Krishnakati area of the town.
Drug peddler jailed for five years
JHALAKATI, July 31: A court here on Sunday sentenced a woman to five years rigorous imprisonment in a drug peddling case. The convict was identified as Roksana Begum, 25, wife of Jamal Hawlader who is also under trial in another case at the same court. The court also fined Roksana Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer three months RI more. According to the prosecution, police recovered 70 bottles of phensidyl syrup from the house of Roksana at Krishnakati, on the outskirts of the town, last year. After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of Joint District and Session Judge's Court-1 M Liaqat Ali handed down the verdict, reports UNB.

Jhalakati, July, 23: A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to 10 years and two others to five years imprisonment each for attempting to violate a housewife. The court also fined the convict Abdul Bareque, who got 10 years imprisonment, to Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer one year RI more.

Assailants hacked two people to death at Mohishkandi village in Kanthalia upazila early yesterday. The deceased were identified as Manik Sikder, 50, a marginal farmer, and his younger brother's wife Shefali Begum, 24.
